Paddlingens dag – A national day for paddling

Celebrating paddling – and inspiring more people to discover the water

Paddlingens dag (“Paddling Day”) is Sweden’s annual national day celebrating paddling in all its forms. Held on the last Saturday in May, it brings together canoe clubs, Approved Canoe Centres, businesses, organisations and individual paddlers across the country.

The idea is simple: to make paddling visible and inspire more people to discover life on the water. Across Sweden, local activities and opportunities to try paddling invite people to experience paddling as an accessible way to be active, spend time outdoors and discover nature from a new perspective.

Everyone can take part. A local club might organise a family day or a try-paddling session, while paddlers, athletes, businesses and other organisations can contribute with their own activities and experiences. Together, these individual initiatives create a nationwide celebration – connecting the paddling community and welcoming new people in.

What started as a local initiative has developed into a national movement coordinated by the Swedish Canoe Federation. Our ambition is for Paddlingens dag to continue growing as a shared meeting place for the entire paddling community – opening the door for more people to discover paddling, outdoor recreation and the joy of experiencing nature from the water.
