Kanotskola – Paddling school for youth
A place to discover, experience and grow
A kanotskola (“Paddling School”) is much more than learning how to paddle. For many children and young people, it is a first encounter with paddling, outdoor recreation and life in a canoe club – a place where movement, nature and community come together.
In a safe and playful environment, participants can try different types of paddling, learn about equipment, weather, water and safety, and gradually develop their skills. Along the way, they also build confidence, courage and independence, learn to cooperate with others and experience the joy of being active outdoors. Shared experiences, challenges and plenty of fun help create friendships and a positive relationship with nature and outdoor life.
Paddling Schools are also an important gateway into the local canoe club. A positive first experience can encourage children and young people to continue into regular activities and become part of the club community. Families are introduced to the club as well, creating opportunities for wider involvement and strengthening the local volunteer movement.
To support clubs and leaders, we provide PaddlePower – a beginner concept that creates a clear and motivating progression from trying paddling for the first time, through Paddling School and into regular club activities. It combines paddling skills with safety, equipment, environmental awareness and how we behave towards both nature and each other.
And there is another important journey taking place. Paddling Schools give young leaders the opportunity to grow – learning to take responsibility, lead groups, listen to others and handle challenges. In this way, Paddling Schools help develop not only the paddlers of tomorrow, but also future leaders and strong local communities.
Our ambition is to give children and young people a positive start – building skills, confidence, friendships and a lasting connection to paddling, community and the outdoors.
